Bat knocking by hand - which camp do you belong to?

Alright this needs to be addressed. Some people trust the machine knocking, are a really good hard press but most people will take a wooden mallet and sit there and do their bat themselves. Which brings up a good question.

Which camp to you belong to?

1. Do you hit the mallet straight on the face of the bat

2. Do you hit the mallet at an angle/diagonally while bouncing it off.

Which one do you follow and why? or are you one of those that will take a leather ball for knocking or use a leather ball mallet and knock in the bat?
